Little Haiti Book Festival in Miami, Florida
Hosted by Miami Book Fair & Miami-Dade College
The Miami Book Fair has partnered with Sosyete Koukouy, an organization dedicated to preserving Haitian culture in the U.S. through education, art, and cultural presentations, to create the Little Haiti Book Festival! Held both in-person and online, the festival ensures that all guests can participate in this vibrant celebration of Haitian literature, art, and culture.
Online Program
The online segment of the festival streams on Facebook through the pages of both the Miami Book Fair and Sosyete Koukouy of Miami, Inc. This year’s panels include topics like “Artificial Intelligence in the Arts” and “Haiti in the Media,” allowing participants to explore how current issues intersect with culture and creativity.
In-Person Experience
The in-person festival is a full-day affair, packed with exciting activities, authors, and publishers showcasing books in English, Haitian Creole, and French. The marketplace buzzes with traditional Haitian food, a mini book fair featuring local authors, and booths offering unique bookish gifts.
In the courtyard, you’ll find lively entertainment including stand-up comedy, performances by cultural ambassador Mecca Marcelin, a DJ, and captivating Haitian folk dances. Kids will also love the free books provided by the Miami Book Fair and the Children’s Trust’s Books for Free program.
In the theater, the live stream of the online programs takes place. The dance studio offers meditation sessions led by educator Alexandra Jeanty-Leclerc and fun Haitian heritage games for all ages.
Children can enjoy the Children’s Alley, which features an art-making studio, Haitian story-time, storytelling through music, and a special guest appearance. Other highlights include Dino Prints & Robo Art, a Young Entrepreneurs Workshop, and an Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop.
Be sure to RSVP after purchasing your tickets for a chance to join a community meet & greet with Little Haiti Book Festival’s literary guests!
